Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has launched the Special Cover on Kachai lemon for the Department of Posts, Manipur Division in a simple function held at Chief Minister’s Secretariat Thursday.
The department releases Special Covers on diverse themes from time to time in order to celebrate/commemorate an event, recognize the importance of a place or thing or promote a local indigenous product/flora or fauna, or a brand for wide publicity.
Speaking on the occasion, N. Biren Singh said that it was indeed a matter of great pride and privilege to release a Special Cover on the local indigenous fruit, Kachai lemon.
Stating that this variety of citrus fruit is chemical free as it grows in the wild in Kachai village of Ukhrul district, the Chief Minister said that its unique taste and nutritional value are known to the world. He further said that Kachai lemon had already received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag as well.
The Chief Minister also expressed hope that bringing out a Special Cover would create more publicity for the lemon variety all over the country.
