2 injured in Meghalaya blast

Shillong: Two people, including a woman, were injured in an explosion in Meghalaya’s state capital Shillong on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The explosion occurred behind a wall of a tea shop at Ïewrynghep (Laitumkhrah market) around 1:30 pm. Inspector-General of Police Eastern Range, Manbha Kupar Dkhar told UNI that two persons
sustained minor injuries in the blast and have been rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

He said a team of forensic experts and a dog squad are examining the site of the explosion to ascertain the cause of the blast. The explosion was so powerful that people staying one kilometre from the blast site could hear the sound, said I Sohtun.

“We heard a loud sound and the entire place shook,” said a shopkeeper, who is selling vegetables in Ïewrynghep parking lot. In fact, several window panes of the building in the area were shattered due to the explosion. Meanwhile, police have cordoned off the entire area.
