Officials of the department led by Director T Phulen set free about 10,000 small fishes worth approximately Rs one lakh, comprising of rohu, grass carp and silver carp for rearing and mainly for recreational purposes.

Regarding the motive, T Phulen said that apart from recreational purposes, the small fishes will eat up the dirt and unwanted objects from the canal and will cleanse the canal. He added that the department is considering setting up a tourism and adventure-based recreational site using pedal boats for the public at this canal when the COVID situation improves.
