Nine COVID-19 deaths, 421 new positive cases recorded in Meghalaya

Shillong: Meghalaya on Friday registered nine more Coronavirus-related death, mounting the fatality figure to 899, while the number of active COVID-19 cases stands at 4,391 with the detection of 421 new cases.
The State also reported 417 new recoveries, pushing the number of recovered cases to 48,380, which has so far recorded 53, 244 confirmed cases.
Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said the COVID-19 related deaths recorded were five in East Khasi Hills district, two in West Garo Hills district besides one death each in West Jaintia Hills district and West Khasi Hills district.
Of the 426 new COVID-19 infections, the senior medical official said 129 new cases of infection were detected in East Khasi Hills district, 87 in Ri-Bhoi district, 73 in West Garo Hills district, 39 in West JaintiaHills district, 18 in East Garo Hills district, 16 in North Garo Hills district, 15 in East Jaintia Hills district, 14 in South West Khasi Hills district and eight each case in West Garo Hills district and South Garo Hills district.
The East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong is the most COVID-19 affected district with 1,423 active cases and 656 deaths due to the viral infection, followed by Ri-Bhoi district with 1,047 active cases, West Garo Hills district with 546 active cases and West Jaintia Hills district with 449 active cases while the seven other districts of the State have less than 300 active cases each, he said.
As on date, 31,114 health care workers have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with the first dose and 20, 171 received the second dose, 96, 846 frontline-workers got the first jab and 27, 620 got the second shot, while 5,67,115 persons from among the general public were inoculated with the first dose and 45,944 are fully vaccinated with the second dose across the state.
