Imphal: In what could be seen as a worrying trend with the upcoming election in Manipur, at least three persons were critically injured Monday during a clash between two groups of people who were supporting different candidates for the Andro Assembly constituency.

Police said all three persons sustained bullet wounds and were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Large numbers of police personnel were stationed in the area to maintain peace.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has strongly condemned political violence which has been witnessed over the last few days in the state and said that instead of depending on the public mandate, some people either intending candidates or have already been elected as public representatives are trying to use violence and groupism during the election campaign which is very unfortunate.

He appealed to all people irrespective of party affiliation to refrain from any sort of violence, goondaism, sectarianism and groupism and warned that laws of the land will apply to everyone if they continue such violence. With agency inputs
