Guwahati: The national president of Youth Congress, Srinivas B V, has approached the Gauhati High Court to quash the FIR filed against him by expelled party member Angkita Dutta, who accused him of harassing and assaulting her.
The case was heard by Justice Ajit Borthakur, who scheduled the next hearing for May 2.
According to Dutta’s complaint filed at Dispur police station on April 19, Srinivas had been tormenting her for the last six months with sexist comments, using foul language and threatening her with dire consequences if she continued to complain against him.
Dutta, who was previously the president of Assam unit Youth Congress, alleged that Srinivas had heckled her during the party’s plenary session at Raipur in February and threatened to ruin her political career.
The police filed an FIR against Srinivas under various IPC sections related to harassment of women and the IT Act. A team of Guwahati police visited Srinivas’s Bengaluru residence on April 23 and issued a notice directing him to appear at Dispur Police station by May 2.
Dutta had made allegations against Srinivas in a series of tweets on April 18, following which Congress issued her a show-cause notice and later expelled her from the party for six years for anti-party activities.
