Kangpokpi: The Kangpokpi Forest Division joined the Nation in observing World Environment Day 2026 by hosting a meaningful celebration at the Compassion Children Home in Taloulong Motbung, Kangpokpi District. Centered around the theme “Inspired by Nature, For Climate, For our future,” the event integrated the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0” campaign to promote environmental conservation.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari IAS underscored that the environmental degradation is no longer a distant threat, but a critical, immediate challenge directly impacting public health, biodiversity, and future generations. He further emphasized that true change requires moving beyond symbolic, single-day celebrations and embedding eco-friendly habits—such as extensive tree plantation, strict reduction of plastic waste, and conscious water conservation—into daily life. In a strong closing call to action, the DC urged government bodies, community leaders, and the public to synergize their efforts and champion local sustainability initiatives, reminding everyone that even the smallest eco-conscious action contributes to a greener, resilient, and thriving planet.
Chinpilhing Kipgen, IFS, while addressing the attendees apprises the significance of June 5th as a collective, nationwide movement for ecological renewal, centering on the national tree-planting campaign, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”. Launched globally in 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi, the initiative enters its third year with a profound focus on planting trees to honor biological mothers—both living and departed—and to express deep reverence for Mother Earth. Emphasizing that today’s environmental actions directly safeguard the climate and quality of life for future generations, she made an earnest appeal to all citizens and local youth to actively adopt, plant, and nurture native saplings.
Following the program, the dignitaries, led by the Deputy Commissioner, participated in a ceremonial tree sapling plantation drive to mark the occasion. This hands-on initiative directly translated the event’s environmental themes into immediate community action.
The program was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Paotinsei Kipgen, MCS; Paokai Kipgen, CMO; DLOs, DFO staffs, Children Home staffs and officials among others.
