Weapons seized, four youths in Chamling’s retinue arrested

A police officer said four youths were in possession of "dangerous and prohibited weapons". The matter was under investigation. He said the four arrested youths were between 24 and 26 years of age and hailed from Siliguri and Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.

Gangtok: Four opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) activists, taking part in a march alongside party chief Pawan Kumar Chamling were arrested at Rongli for allegedly carrying weapons in their vehicle, police said.

A police officer said four youths were in possession of “dangerous and prohibited weapons”. The matter was under investigation. He said the four arrested youths were between 24 and 26 years of age and hailed from Siliguri and Jalpaiguri in West Bengal.

Chamling has been spearheading the march christened ‘Sikkim Bachaw,’(save Sikkim).

‘.Upon receipt of information, the Police team swiftly intercepted the vehicle in front of Rongli Police station. A search was carried out, recovering sharp weapons,’ said Karma Gyamtso Bhutia,SP, Sikkim Police Pakyong District.

Chief Minister, PS Tamang, said it was “unbecoming” of the former CM to have weapon-bearing persons from outside the tate in his rally. ‘They are here to disturb peace, and have disclosed drawing Rs 20,000 per day. They are in the Police Station. The party workers raised slogans outside the Police station pressing for the release of their people,” said CM Tamang.

In the meantime, the SDF has submitted a memorandum to Police, claiming escort vehicles of the party President were also seized and a few of his personal security guards have been arrested “without any evidence of having committed any crime or offence under the law.
