War on Drugs taking the shape of a people’s movement: Manipur CM

Imphal: Chief Minister N Biren stated that the State Government’s “War on Drugs” campaign had now taken shape of a people’s movement as several communities had extended support and cooperation to the campaign. He stated this while attending a conference on “War Against Drugs” organized by Anjuman Nasrul Islam at Sora Karanchi Playground, Kakching District.

N Biren Singh further announced that Sora Karanchi Lower Primary School would be upgraded to High School and also informed that a water supply scheme would be constructed at Sora in the second phase of Manipur Water Supply Project under the Jal Jeevan Mission-Har Ghar Jal Scheme. The Chief Minister also stated that the State Government would take into consideration the demands for a Primary Health Centre and a market at Sora and a survey would be carried out to look into it.

The Chief Minister asked the committee to cooperate with the Government in finding out the drug peddlers operating in the area and their reasons for indulging in such act so that they could be provided an alternative means of livelihood. He further added the Government would set up Rehabilitation Centre for drug users in the area if needed.

Later, all the locals present in the function took a collective pledge to refrain from drug activities and extend full support to the Government’s “War on Drugs” campaign.

The conference was also attended by Education Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen, Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board L Rameshwor, MLAs M Rameshwar, Paonam Brojen and Shri Y. Antas Khan among others.
