Awangbow Newmai launches tree plantation drive across Manipur

Imphal: As part of the ongoing celebration of the 4 years of achievements of Biren Singh led Government, Awangbow Newmai, Minister of Forest, Environment and Climate Change kick-started a tree plantation drive at Cheiraoching, Imphal West Thursday. The drive is observed across all the district headquarters, subdivision headquarters and towns in the State.

Addressing the media persons, he said that the objective of the programme is to relook at the achievements of the Forest Department in the last 4 years and to continue various developmental programmes. Stating that Chief Minister N Biren Singh is concerned for the overall development of the State in all aspects, he said the tree plantation drive is organized along with the District Administration Imphal West and Central Forest Division.

Speaking regarding the achievements of the Forest Department, he informed that the department had undertaken plantation drive in a total area of 22,730 hectares in the last 4 years. He said for the first time starting this year under the Agro Forestry, plantation programmes have been carried out in 10 villages each in the districts of Tamenglong and Churachandpur.

He informed that Manipur has been named as a ‘Champion State’ in the country for its successful implementation of Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana (PMVDY). It can be mentioned that since the launch of PMVDY in 2019, 100 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras (VDVKs) have been established with the formation on 1557 SHGs benefitting 30189 tribal entrepreneurs in 14 (fourteen) Forest Divisions of Manipur.

The Minister expressed his happiness over the awareness of the people both in the valley and the hills regarding the importance of water. Calling upon all sections of the society to help the State departments and to contribute in the conservation process, he said that the Rejuvenation and Conservation of Nambul River Project is undertaken at present and assured such projects to be taken up in future.

Pherzawl District Administration carried out different activities in the District as pre-event for celebrating completion of four years by the State Government on Thursday.

He sought cooperation from all the stakeholders of the society in helping the Forest Department in the conservation and protection of the forest and wildlife in the State.

Thursday’s function was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary MH Khan, officials of Forest Department including Central Forest Division led by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Head of Forest Force K Angami, officials of District Administration Imphal West led by DC Naorem Praveen, among others.

District Administration of Senapati started Tree Plantation drive today at Taphou Naga, near SKABU Prayer Centre, Senapati Disrict HQ on Thursday.

Tree plantation drive was carried out at various district and sub-divisional headquarters of Manipur. In Senapati district, tree Plantation drive was also carried out at Taphou Naga, near SKABU Prayer Centre, Senapati Disrict HQ by the district administration. D John Sha, MFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Senapati Shri S. Lohrii Mao, Executive Engineer, PHED, Senapati attended the tree plantation drive.

Around 60 sapling of trees were planted at Mini Secretariat complex and District Court complex. Besides, Parallel plantation programmes are conducted in all the Block Head- Quarters under the supervision of SDO/BDO, Hospitals and Public Offices, villages, Schools and colleges and Anganwadi centres. The DLO’s, village authorities and various government officials and staffs were present in today’s Tree Plantation Drive.

The Churachandpur District Administration has organised a tree plantation drive today through District Level Officers and Sub-Divisional Officers under active monitoring by Additional DC and overall supervision of the Deputy Commissioner as part of 4 years of Citizen-Centric Governance the celebration.

Staff of ADCC planted tree saplings along the Mary Kom Ring Road while the DC Office staff planted saplings at the Mini-Secretariat campus. The District Police planted saplings at Peace Ground while the Forest Department, other DLOs and SDOs within their respective jurisdictions.

Pherzawl District Administration also carried out different activities in the District as pre-event for celebrating completion of four years by the State Government.

Information received from Pherzawl DHQ said that the day was full of activities for the District Administration with Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching and DFO, Pherzawl leading tree plantation inside DC Complex and Community Hall premises at Pherzawl DHQ from 7 today morning.

The DC along with DFO, Pherzawl and Range Officer, Tipaimukh inspected Nursery and tree plantation under CAMPA at Lawibual village later.

At Thanlon Sub-Divisional headquarters, mass tree plantation was carried out by Range Officer, Thanlon; ZEO Pherzawl staff and personnel of 34 Assam Rifles. Mass tree plantation drive was also carried out by Pherzawl Forest Division, Thanlon VA, 34 AR, Police Department, Medical Department at the edges of Thanlon public playground, SDO office complex, PHC, Range Forest Office, Thanlon.
