Very heavy rainfall wreaks havoc in Manikaran, Malana & Sainj valleys of Kullu district

Shimla: Parvati river, Chonj and Malana rivluts in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh have wreaked havoc as the water levels rose after very heavy rainfall and cloud burst like rain in the district washing away residents, Tourist bridges, houses, cowsheds, food stalls eateries and Public and private properties.

State Secretary for Disaster management Sudesh Mokta said one person died and four to five including a tourist are missing, A valley bridge on Parvati river washed away. Landslides, floods, and rising water of rivers and rivulets caused massive devastation.

A cloud burst like rain on Bhuntar road in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh has caused floods in the Choy Nallah in Manikaran Valley.

Due to landslides, the road near Kasol on Bhuntar-Manikarn road is closed. At the same time, four to six people are missing due to the floods. The search operation to trace out missing has been started by local people. In this incident, five cows including three houses, one guest house, three camping sites, and one cowshed were washed away.

The missing have been identified as Rohit, a resident of Sundernagar(Mandi), Kapil of Pushkar of Rajasthan, Rahul Chaudhary, Dharamsala(Kangra district), and Arjun from Banjar(Kullu district). Apart from this, three camping sites have been completely destroyed in the rubble, while food eateries have also been flooded. The houses of N have also been washed away.

The teams of district administration and rescue teams have left for the spot, but the fire department vehicles including the district administration team who came out to take stock of the damage were stuck due to the landslide.

There is a number of vehicles stranding ahead of Zari due to landslides on the road. The village of Chojh has been cut off after the bridge over the Parvati river got washed away. According to the people, the flood wreaked heavy damage as houses and restaurants built at the confluence site of the Parvati river and Choj Nala have been washed away.

“How many people were in these houses and restaurants, the situation is not clear yet. SDM Kullu Vikas Shukla said only after reaching the spot, the situation of loss and flow of people would be clear. We have taken stock of the damage caused by the debris on Malana Road, where everyone is safe, but there has been a lot of damage to property, Mr. Mokta said.

Malana Project offices and sheds have been washed away by the debris in Malana. Flood also caused massive damage to the Malana project, but everyone here is said to be safe. The rescue team is taking stock of the damage on the spot. Many roads in the Sainj Valley have been closed due to the heavy rain that night. There has been a landslide on Shanshar Road. Apart from this, several roads in Banjar, Ani, Kullu, and Manali areas are reported to be closed due to landslides.
