Van Mahotsav: Minister Biswajit plants saplings at six locations

Tree planting events, he said, are being organised today by different state departments at different sites to encourage the involvement of all employees and reaffirm the collective responsibility of all towards safeguarding and nurturing nature.

Imphal: Manipur’s Industry Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh Wednesday planted saplings at six different locations organised by the different departments under him as part of the weeklong celebration of Van Mahotsav – the Tree Planting Festival. 

Addressing the media at one of the locations, Biswajit said that tree plantations will help in protecting the environment. Tree planting events, he said, are being organised today by different state departments at different sites to encourage the involvement of all employees and reaffirm the collective responsibility of all towards safeguarding and nurturing nature.

The tree plantation programmes started at Lairenkabi, Phayeng along Imphal Kangchup Road organised by the Public Works Department, Manipur. Commissioner Works, T. Ranjit Singh; Chief Engineer PWD, Manipur, Kh. Temba Singh; Chief Engineer, NHs, PWD Manipur, T. Rabindra Singh and officials concerned also planted saplings.

The next tree plantation programme was held at NH 150 Sabungkhok to Phayol under Sawombung Block organised by Rural Engineering Department (RED)/ MSRRDA Rural Development & Panchayati Raj. Chief Engineer, (RED)/ MSRRDA Shri Pantishing Thamei with staff attended the programme.

The Department of Textiles, Commerce & Industry also held the tree plantation at Trade and Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong in the presence of the Minister attended by Commissioner Textiles, Commerce & Industry, R. K. Dinesh Singh; Director Textiles, Commerce & Industry Lourembam Bikram; Director Handlooms & Textiles Lamlee Kamei and officials concerned. 

Later the Minister planted a tree sapling as part of the day’s programme at the Office Complex of Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Keisampat along with Commissioner IPR M. Joy, Additional Director W. Phajatombi Devi, DDO, DIPR, L. Ashok Kumar and officials concerned.

Biswajit Singh also planted tree sapling at Yurembam Power House organised by the Power Department. Managing Director, MSPCL, N. Sarat Singh; Managing Director MSPDCL Ng. Subashchandra, and officials concerned attended the tree plantation programme. 

The tree plantation programme concluded at the State Academy of Training Complex Takyelpat with plantation of sapling by the Minister in the presence of Additional Chief Secretary Administration Reform/Director General, State Academy of Training, Letkhogin Haokip alongwith officials of the academy.
