UP polls: 145 nominations rejected during scrutiny of 55 seats in second phase

Now, 648 candidates remain in the fray for second phase. The last date for withdrawal is January 31.

Lucknow: Altogether, nomination papers of 145 candidates were rejected on Saturday during scrutiny for 55 Assembly seats in the second phase of polls in Uttar Pradesh, where polling is scheduled to be held on February 14.

Now, 648 candidates remain in the fray for second phase. The last date for withdrawal is January 31.

A total of 793 candidates had filed their nominations for phase 2. During the scrutiny, highest 11 papers were rejected in Bilsi Assembly seat, 10 in Jalalabad and eight in Katra Assembly seat, the Election Commission sources said here.

Meanwhile in the third phase of nominations in 59 seats, where polling is scheduled for February 20, 226 nomination have been filed so far, with 128 nominations submitted today. March 1 is the last day for filling of nominations in the third phase.

In the fourth phase of nominations for 60 seats, where polling will be held on February 23, 68 nominations have been filed so far, with 33 submitted today. March 3 is the last date for filing of nominations for phase four.
