UP: 3 die due to asphyxia while cleaning tank in tannery

In-charge of Chakeri Police station Shailendra Singh said that the bodies have been sent for post mortem and further action will be taken after a formal complaint is received.

Kanpur: Three labourers died due to asphyxia while cleaning a sewer tank of a tannery in Jajmau area of the city on Friday, police sources said here.

Police sources said that Sonu Valmiki (28), Satyam Yadav (26) and Sukhbeer Singh (35) fell unconscious while cleaning the tank of the tannery in Jajmau area around 3 am. “They were somehow taken out by the tannery workers and were taken to the Lala Lajpat Rai hospital,” they said.

Police sources said that after some time the doctors declared the trio dead. “The tannery employees and the contractor fled from the spot after the incident. The family members of the victims have been informed, who have accused the tannery owner of laxity,” they said.
