Ukraine bans exchange transactions in Russian, Belarusian currencies

In the early hours on Thursday, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine after the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Luhansk requested assistance.

Kyiv: The Central Bank of Ukraine has prohibited foreign exchange transactions in Russian and Belarusian rubles.

“Authorised institutions are banned from conducting any currency transactions using Russian rubles and Belarusian rubles,” the bank said.

The Central Bank also barred Ukrainian banks from carrying out any settlements with individuals or legal entities based in Russia or Belarus, the statement added.
