Shillong: Two persons, who were allegedly planning to engineer an explosion at a toll gate in NH Toll Gate located at 7th Mile in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia Hills district, have been detained by the police on Wednesday, police said on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation comprising of Police Teams of East & West Jaintia Hills District was conducted on Wednesday in and around the Jowai area, police said.
A police official said that the early detention of the two persons and recovery of gelatine sticks, detonators and fuse have averted a explosion in the busy NH Toll Gate.
During the operation, two persons were detained from Wahgate, Jowai, and from their possession the Police Team recovered five Gelatines Sticks, ten detonators and fuse wire, Meghalaya Spokesperson, Gabriel Iangrai said.
“It is suspected that the explosive devices are being brought for the purpose of causing explosion in NH Toll Gate located at 7th Mile, West Jaintia Hills,” he said.
Meanwhile, a criminal case under Jowai Police Station has been registered and investigation of the case is in progress.
