Imphal:Two persons were shot dead and another injured in firing by armed persons at Haraothel, Imphal West on Thursday.
Police said Waikhom Boicha, working in a merchant navy and Konsam Herojit died in the firing due to firing from the hill areas. There was tension in the area farmers were not able to carry out activities due to heavy firing from the surrounding areas. Due to ethnic clashes in Manipur since May 3 last the state is facing unrest.
Police said 408 persons were detained in connection with violations in different districts of the State. The checking at the checkpoints are intensified round the clock in order to prevent unwanted incidents.
During the last 24 hours, 17 arms, 12 ammunition and ten bombs have been recovered.
