Two children among five members of a family killed in car accident at Nadia

Kolkata: Two children among five members of a family, including an adult woman, were killed when the vehicle in which they were traveling was hit by a goods-laden truck in West Bengal’s Nadia district, an official source said on Friday.

Police said the head-on-collision happened around 8 30 am at Nakashipara on the 34 NH when the heavy-duty truck smashed the small vehicle killing all five occupants instantly.

Police said they were yet to ascertain the identity of the dead. The deceased were probably heading towards Kolkata from Raiganj, another source said.

The mishap occurred when the truck took the single way to negotiate as parts of the double lane was temporarily closed for repair, the police added.

The driver of the truck and his helper fled, abandoning the vehicle immediately after hitting the light four-wheeler.

Police said among the killed were two minors, a woman and two adult people.
