Tripura youth convicted for rape and attempting murder of a mother of 4 children

Agartala: A local court of South Tripura has convicted a youth identified as Abhiranjan Tripura for molesting, raping and attempting to murder a mother of four children in September 2019 at Malumbari hamlet of Manirampur ADC Village in Hrishyamukh of Belonia.

The District and Session Judge, South Tripura Udit Chowdhury awarded seven years imprisonment to the convict and slapped the fine of Rs 17000 under sections 457, 376, 511 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the report, Abhiranjan Tripura had taken advantage of the absence of the husband of the victim at midnight, sneaked into the house of a mother of four children and raped her.

The children were sleeping next to her when woke up and raised resistance; allegedly Abhiranjan had attempted to kill her but failed. Then somehow, he managed to flee from the spot in the dark.

The next morning, the victim filed a case against the accused at the Belonia police station.

After a long hearing and testimonies of the case, the court sentenced him to two years imprisonment under section 451 and fine of Rs 5,000, one year imprisonment under section 506 and a fine of Rs 2,000 and under section 354 (B) with a fine of Rs 10,000 or seven years of imprisonment.
