Agartala: A youth has been arrested for allegedly killing an eight-year-old boy after a dispute between the victim and the son of the accused while playing in Tripura’s Dhalai district, police said on Wednesday.
Chandrajoy Tripura was tied to a tree and badly beaten up by a mob after the child’s death in Ratannagar area of Gandacherra on Tuesday.
However, police managed to rescue Chandrajoy, whose condition is said to be critical.
Allegedly, the victim Kartik Tripura, son of Jatanjoy Tripura was playing with the son of the accused on a plaground on Tuesday afternoon, when a quarrel broke out between them over some childish dispute.
The accused Chandrajoy was working in a nearby field. He got infuriated and hit Kartik on the neck with a heavy iron cutter. The respiratory tract of the child got cut and he died on the spot.
The accused ran away into the jungle and villagers launched a search and caught him.
Meanwhile, police from Raisyabari police station reached the spot and shifted Kartik to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Later, police found Chandrajoy was beaten up in another village and rescued him in an unconscious state and referred him to the district hospital where he is fighting for his life.
Security has been stepped up in the hospital to prevent any further attacks. A police force has been deployed in the village, especially in Chandrajoy’s house, to protect the family from public anger.
