Imphal: Manipur Health & family Welfare Minister Dr. S. Ranjan Singh on Wednesday asked all health officials to strictly control the health centres to ensure that female foeticide does not take place.
He convened a State Supervisory Board (SSB), PCs Pre-Natal Diagnostic Act meeting here at Directorate of Family Welfare.
The minister said the meeting was organized to strengthen the implementation of the PC & PNDT Act/Rules in Manipur.
He said the PCPNDT Act was enacted by the Indian Parliament to stop female foeticide in the country.
The minister highlighted the cases of gender discrimination. The meeting also deliberated upon the various steps to prevent gender discrimination and female foeticide and to improve sex ratio in the state.
Dr Ranjan said there was discussion on gender based violence and medico legal care for survivors of sexual violence under PC & PNDT programme.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Health & FW, V. Vumlunmang, Commissioner Law Nungshitombi Devi, Director RIMS , Director Health Services, Manipur, SMD, NHM Manipur and others.
