Agartala: Tripura government tagged Uttar Majlishpur hamlet of Jirania in West Tripura as ‘Tiranga village’ to mark the memory of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav which concluded the year-long program on Monday.

With the initiative of Information Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, the village falls under his assembly constituency, the whole village has been painted with the national tricolor and wall paintings of freedom fighters and national heroes.

Each of the houses has depicted each story of India’s freedom movement by the local artists, which has now turned into a tourist destination. The agriculture-driven life of the village has a mixed population of tribal and non-tribal got engaged in the campaign with patriotic fervor.

“The villagers leave no stone unturned to propagate nationalism, which turned into a remarkable example of patriotism. The village portrayed the martyred heroes and freedom fighters of the nation through a splendid painting on the mud-walls of the houses in the village,” said Chowdhury.

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha visited Tiranga village on Independence Day and interacted with the villagers.

Appreciating the initiative Dr Saha said, “The unique step of Prime Minister Narendra Modi propagating Har Ghar Tiranga has evoked completely a different ethos among the commoners and the public responded sharply forgetting all odds and sufferings.”

India has set an example of patriotism in celebration of the 76th anniversary of India’s Independence that defeated the evil forces and encouraged people to get involved in the national building task unitedly, Dr Saha said adding, “This year’s celebration certainly helps us to fight against corruption and anti-Indian forces, as it induced a sense of nationalism further.”

The participation of the people of Tripura in Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was overwhelming. The people of all age groups and all sections took part in the mega celebration on August 13-15 even in the distant villages. There is an amazing response everywhere – even the daily wage earners bought national tri-color and raised it, Dr Saha stated.
