Tripura opens first Innovation hub

Agartala: Tripura has embarked on a plan to set up an innovation hub in each of the eight districts to inculcate innovative mindset in school children and to invoke them towards rational thinking and pursue scientific temperament, said Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma holding Science and Technology portfolio after inaugurating 38th innovation hub of the country and first in Tripura here Sunday.

He said the department has been preparing the proposal for setting up district-level innovation hubs seeking funds from the Centre. The first innovation hub has been operationalised at Sukanta Academy with the help of National Science Museums, which is dedicated to young talents and inquisitive students.

The government has taken initiative to make the students mindful of science to accelerate the process of development, Dev Varma said, adding that the hub should not be used only for exhibition purposes, rather mobilise the students from across the state to visit the innovation hub for excursion and get engaged in assignments for innovation.

The minister said the new education policy calls for hands-on education and is oriented for skill training besides getting certificates and added, “We get information from textbooks and is converted into knowledge, which generates ideas and ultimately leads to innovation.”
The Tripura government has been encouraging students to make things using bamboo.
