Tripura Food Minister accused of leading attack on CPI(M)

Agartala: The opposition CPI (M) accused Food and Civil Supplies Minister Manoj Kanti Deb of leading attacks on their party offices and houses of some local leaders in Kamalpur of Dhalai district last night.

The CPI(M) in a statement alleged that Deb led a gang of BJP including the Mandal president Shyamal Pal vandalized the CPI(M) local committee office in Kamalpur followed by the residences of local committee secretary Amar Bhattacharjee, left student wing’s subdivision secretary Raja Majumder, farmer’s wing leader Bhola Majumder and youth wing leader Sumangal De in the last evening.

The statement alleged that BJP miscreants had gathered in the town from all over the subdivision during corona curfew and after holding a meeting in BJP party office, they carried out the attack in presence of police.

“The statue of Saumendra Sutradhar who had died in 1968 during the food movement was broken and desecrated by the attackers. Afterward, they also organized a procession in the town to panic among the people. Despite specific complaints, police haven’t arrested anybody yet,” statement added.

Recently, BJP became weak in Dhalai district because of factional discontent within the party and many of the three tier panchayats revolted against present dispensation of the government raising large-scale violence, corruption and lobbying in the party to remain in the centre of power.

Manoj Kanti Deb, known to be a follower of present Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has been facing large scale opposition from four BJP MLAs of the party from the district and he has become alone like other districts of the state. As a result, opposition CPI(M) has gained ground in the last few months and challenged the organisation of ruling BJP.
