Tripura court sentences 7 people in murder case

Police said the absconder Sujit Malakar had engaged in an altercation with his neighbour Lal Mohan Sarkar over fodder collection in the morning and at the evening accused Sujit along with all the convicts and another absconder Gopal had attacked Lalmohan with sticks and iron rods.

Agartala: A local court in West Tripura on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to seven convicts in a 14 years old murder case of a 55 years old housewife of Kalyanpurpara of Barjala area in the city.

The additional district Judge (West Tripura) Govinda Das pronounced the judgment of the incident had occurred in November 2008 where seven accused – Uttam Sarkar, Ujjal Deb, Pankaj Sutradhar, Litan Nag, Amit Deb, Rajen Deb and Ajit Sarkar were awarded life imprisonment while two others Sujit Malakar and Gopal Pal have still been absconding.

Police said the absconder Sujit Malakar had engaged in an altercation with his neighbour Lal Mohan Sarkar over fodder collection in the morning and at the evening accused Sujit along with all the convicts and another absconder Gopal had attacked Lalmohan with sticks and iron rods.

Lal Mohan’s wife Nirubala Sarkar (55) had sustained serious injuries in the attack when she tried to prevent the perpetrators. 
However, the attackers fled away after a group of local people chased them. Nirubala was shifted to Agartala Govt Medical College where she was declared dead.

The Special Public Prosecutor Pulak Kumar Debnath said based on the FIR of the victim’s family police investigated the case and filed a charge sheet against nine people within a year. 

After a long hearing and deposition of witnesses of the case, the court convicted all of them.While awarding life term to seven people who had been arrested and brought under trial, the court directed police to intensify search operation against the absconding prime accused of the crime Sujit Malakar and Gopal Pal.
