Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday kicked off a three-day celebration to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s independence by hoisting a high mast flag in front of the Civil Secretariat followed by a mass plantation drive and a Run for Green Tripura.

Addressing the gathering, Saha said not only government departments but even corporates and civil society organizations have responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in a befitting manner.

“I am happy to see the response of the citizens in Agartala and even in the distant villages where every household got engaged in the celebration of independence without any compulsion,” he said.

The Chief Minister mentioned that a target has been set to hoist 5.37 lakh national flags across the state between August 13 and 15.

Later, Saha flagged off a motorbike rally and took part in the Har Ghar Tiranga promotion program among indigenous families at Narkel Kunja in Dombur lake on the eastern border of Tripura.

Agartala city and all important towns wore a new look with the decoration of the tricolor and illumination in houses and government institutions.
