Agartala: The Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Ratan Chakraborty on Wednesday announced the expulsion of Surma MLA Ashis Das from the assembly under the anti-defection law.
Das was elected from the SC reserved seat of the Dhalai district with BJP ticket in the 2018 assembly elections. However, his relation with Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb had turned hostile two years later and he joined the dissident camp of BJP.
He has been criticising the Chief Minister, the state government and BJP leaders at the centre and charging them of persuading anti-people activities and political vendetta against fellow politicians. Finally, he joined Trinamool Congress in September last year in Kolkata.
Reacting to the decision of Speaker Das said that this government had become corrupt and working against the people and he had been trying to rectify it by staying inside the party but Chief Minister didn’t accept it and he was threatened several times and added, “Even during the visit of PM on Tuesday I was house arrest in the city because they were scared if I raise the voice to Modi against their activities. Anyways, let BJP show it’s capacity by winning the seat in the by-election.”
