Top ULFA (I) leader Jibon Moran arrested

Guwahati: Top ULFA-I leader Jibon Moran has been arrested in a case relating to extortion registered against him in 2019.

A case (no 1197/19) was registered against 65-year-old Moran at Milan Nagar police outpost in Dibrugarh for allegedly demanding Rs 20 lakh from Vikash Kumar Mishra, a tax consultant.

Moran was produced before the Dibrugarh District and Session judge court on Friday, which sent him to five-day police custody.

Notably, Moran returned to mainstream three days back.

On Wednesday, Moran was taken into the Indian Army’s custody after he entered India from Myanmar.

Moran was later taken to Laju army camp in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh for interrogation.

After spending three decades in ULFA-I, the self-styled Major General of the outfit returned to the mainstream.

He was one of the top functionaries of ULFA, who worked in different capacities of the outfit.

ULFA (I) recently in a statement stated that Jibon Moran was relieved from the outfit due to his failing health.

Moran was a part of many operations of the outfit and held the post of finance secretary.

He underwent training in Burma after joining the ULFA in 1984 and saw various blows to the outfit, including Operation Bajrang in 1990, Operation All Clear in Bhutan in 2003.
