TMC’s O’Brien seeks appointment with Shah over Tripura violence

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) Derek O’Brien on Monday sought an appointment with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to apprise the latter on the alleged attack by the BJP workers on its party workers and leaders besides the arrest of its youth wing chief Saayoni Ghosh in Tripura ahead of the November 25 civic body polls.

“Mr Amit Shah Home Minister, Sir. Brutal attacks on TMC. Even members of the media clobbered in Tripura. Unprecedented attacks. Arrests on trumped-up charges. Sixteen Trinamool MPs have reached Delhi. Sir, please do give us an appointment this morning. Patiently waiting” the TMC leader wrote in a tweet.

On Sunday, O’Brien had slammed the ruling BJP government in Tripura after seven of its party members were injured in an attack allegedly by the saffron party cadres and termed it “fascist brutality”.

At least seven TMC workers were injured in a sudden broad daylight attack at East Agartala Women police station allegedly by the BJP cadres on Sunday when Tripura police brought Saayoni Ghosh for questioning.

She was arrested by the Tripura police after three hours of interrogation under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Meanwhile, TMC MP Sushmita Dev slammed the Biplab Kumar Deb-led government in Tripura in a tweet and wrote, “BJP has resorted to brutalising residents of Agartala. Democratic means are under siege. We have faith in the people of Tripura. They will speak against Biplab ‘s violence against citizens. “

“PMO the least you can do is send the DGP of Tripura back to his state where there is complete chaos. The DGP conference can wait. we the TMC workers are facing intense violence,” she said in another tweet.
According to sources, the MPs who had arrived in Delhi last night will stage a protest in the national capital on Monday.
