Agartala: Hundreds of Trinamool Congress supporters of Tripura were prevented by police on VIP Road near Circuit house here on Wednesday on their way to Raj Bhawan to press for a 15 point charter of demands including restoration of democracy and improvement of law and order in the state.
The procession was led by TMC State Convener Subal Bhowmik and state in-charge of the party and former minister of Mamata Banerjee government Rajib Banerjee raising slogan against deteriorating law and order situation, employment of educated youths, break down of education and health services, continuous attacks on democratic institutions and selling out the profit-making organisations.
Addressing the gathering Rajib Banerjee alleged that the people of Tripura voted BJP led government to power in 2018 ending up the corrupt rule of communists, believing the promises of BJP.
But in four years of rule, not a single promise was fulfilled rather the fundamental rights of the people and opposition parties have been snatched away.
“Under Biplab Kumar Deb’s rule, opposition parties were not allowed to conduct their activities, field candidates in the elections, media cannot function independently, the freedom of expression has not been permitted in Tripura, and police help the BJP backed criminals to carry out attacks on the opposition.
Despite registering over a hundred specific cases against BJP goons, none was arrested in the last six months,” Banerjee alleged.
Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Banerjee alleged that during his visit to Tripura on Tuesday, he bluffed the people again by sharing fabricated stories of development and said,
“The socio-economic condition of Tripura has been deteriorated further in four years except for the expansion of the ambit of corruption, perpetrating personal vendetta and violence.”
Addressing the gathering state convener Bhowmik alleged that democracy in Tripura has been bulldozed under Biplab Deb’s rule. Hundreds of unemployed have become jobless and the security of commoners reduced to zero and added, “There was serious corruption in the recent selection of Tripura State Rifles and BJP leaders are now running away.”
