Imphal: Troops of Shangshak Battalion on Friday foiled timber smuggling at Changa  of Kamjong District and seized timbers worth Rs 3.84 cr.

Assam Rifles official said the Assam Rifles troops intercepted trucks loaded with illegal timber and the seized timber along with apprehended smugglers and vehicles were handed over to Forest department, Finch Corner for further legal action.

Meanwhile, Manipur Police and Keithelmanbi Battalion apprehended an insurgent in Thoubal district on Friday.

Based on specific input, troops of Assam Rifles along with Manipur Police launched the operation which led to the apprehension.

Assam Rifles official said the man was handed over to Thoubal Police Station for further investigation.
