Shillong: A local court in Meghalaya has convicted and sentenced three persons to five years’ rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy, a police official said on Wednesday.

In a statement, District police chief of East Khasi Hills, Sylvester Nongtnger said the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, East Khasi Hills, R Rymbai convicted Mahindra Sahi @ Kalu, Asun @ Oshun Chettri and Bobby Chettri on March 17.

The court awarded the trio with five years imprisonment under section 377/34 IPC, he said.

On June 11, 2011, a complaint was lodged against the accused of sexually assaulting the 13-year-old boy and later a case was registered at Lumdiengjri police station, Nongtnger said, adding that the case was endorsed to Inspector MR Marak for the investigation leading to the chargesheet on July 7, 2011.
