Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party on Monday announced 159 more candidates for seven-phase Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. Party president and CM face Akhikesh Yadav would be contesting from Karhal seat in Mainpuri district, while his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav would contest from the adjoining Jaswantnagar seat in Etawah district.
Presently, Akhilesh is the Lok Sabha MP from Azamgarh.
Among the 159 candidates, 30 were Muslims, including several sitting members. However, the surprise was jailed Lok Sabha MP from Rampur Mohammad Azam Khan, who has been made candidate from Rampur seat, where presently his wife is the sitting SP member.
Azam’s son Abdullah, whose was disqualified from Swar seat over the birth date row, has again been given ticket from the same seat. Jailed Nahid Hasan had been given ticket from Kairana seat in Shamli district, where his nominations were found valid today.
Former BJP minister Dharam Singh Saini, who left the party to join SP, was given ticket from Nakur seat in Saharanpur district. Former BSP leader Dadu Prasad has been given ticket from Nairaini seat in Bundelkhand, while another BSP leader Vinay Tiwari, son of Hari Shanker Tiwari , who recently joined SP was given ticket from Gola Gokarannath.
Congress turncoat Supriya Aron has been given ticket from Bareilly cantt seat, while BJP MLA, who switched over to SP recently, was given ticket from his own Tilhar seat in Shahjahanpur district.
