Imphal: Six new Omicron cases were detected in Manipur on Friday, said Dr K Rajo, Director Health Services.
The total number of omicron cases has now become seven in the state. Among the new six cases one was a female returnee from a foreign country and another male is a visitor to the state. The rest were close contacts. The visitor has already left the state. Tracing of close contacts and containment measures were in place, health official said.
Dr Rajo said all the seven Omicron cases in Manipur were also discharged after getting negative report. As there is only one genome sequencing centre in Manipur to identify Omicron variant the results could not be obtained immediately.
He said people should not panic and follow guidelines to check spread of Covid 19.
Meanwhile the state also recorded 116 new Covid 19 cases. The new cases included four Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel.
The positive cases from the general population were from Imphal East (22), Imphal West (40),
Thoubal (3), Bishnupur (3), Kakching (4), Kangpokpi (3), Tengnoupal (6), Ukhrul (1), Chandel (2) and Churachandpur (28).
There was no report of any death related to Covid hence the death toll remained fixed at 2012.
Altogether 29 persons were discharged thus increasing the number of active cases to 944. The cumulative number of positive cases was 1,26,821, recovered cases 1,23,865. The recovery rate was 97.67 per cent.
