Sikkim High Court Bar Association, RHA to hold symposium for the rights of sexual minorities

Gangtok: High Court Bar Association and Rainbow Hills Association in a bid to spread awareness on the need for inclusiveness of sexual minorities will host a symposium here.

“There is lack of awareness on alternative gender in the state. We are organising the symposium to make people aware of the sexual minorities and their rights,’ said Additional Advocate General of Sikkim High Court, Dr Doma Tshering, who also heads the Sikkim High Court Bar Association.

The Census report 2011 speaks of 126 alternative gender persons in the hill state.

President of Rainbow Hills Welfare Association told this reporter that there are at least 24 such persons in the WhatsApp group exclusive to them where they have been sharing their blues.
