Gangtok: Chief Minister PS Tamang led delegation was assured of the request made when they called on Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah.
CM submitted a memorandum regarding the inclusion of 12 communities of Sikkim, in Article 342 of the Constitution of India. And also reservation of seats for Limboo-Tamang tribals (2003).
Subsequently, Tamang called on Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda,with 40 persons as per party sources.
Prominent among those accompanying Chief Minister, included Speaker Legislature, Arun Upreti, Chairperson Commission of other Backward Classes, Pabitra Bhandari,Ministers , MP Lok Sabha IH Subba and representatives of different communities aspiring for Tribal status.Limboo – Tamang were represented by B Tamling.
Those struggling for Tribal status include,Majhi, Thami,Bhujel,GurungMangar,Newar,Khas Chettri – Bahun,Giri – Sanyasi,Dewan,Sunuwar, Rai and Giri.
As far as Limboo and Tamangs are concerned despite Supre Court’s directions nothing could happen so far.
