Itanagar: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) alongwith Speaker L B Das, Ministers and MLAs on Friday arrived at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, bordering China, to a warm traditional reception by Tawang legislator Tsering Tashi, Deputy Commissioner K N Damo, SP Bomge Kamduk and public leaders at Dzela.
After having lunch at Tawang circuit house, the Sikkim CM along with his entourage paid a visit to the Tawang War Memorial and took part in a wreath laying ceremony to pay homage to the brave soldiers who made supreme sacrifice while protecting Tawang from intruders in 1962.
The dignitaries later visited the Tawang Monastery and offered prayers and lighted lamps amidst chanting of mantras by the monks.
The CM and other dignitaries from Sikkim will visit Thongmen Gonpa tomorrow before leaving for Bishum Phudung under Dirang sub-division of West Kameng district to attend the Arunachal-Sikkim Cultural Exchange Programme, official sources said.
