Shillong: Raj Bhavan, Shillong has filed an FIR against eight fake Twitter accounts impersonating Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik.

The Raj Bhavan has written to the Director General of Police R Chandranathan citing that the account and seven others in the name of the Governor are fake.

In a letter to Chandranathan, Secretary to Meghalaya Governor, Pravin Bakshi requested that FIRs be registered against these fake accounts on Twitter.

In the FIR it was mentioned that these fake accounts were created with an “intention to cheat, fraud, harm and malign the reputation of the Governor.”

It further stated that these violate provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Bakshi pointed out to the DGP that the accounts were “posting derogatory and offensive materials which are prejudicial to the high office of Governor of Meghalaya and which in no way reflect his views.”

Some of these accounts were tweeting against the BJP-led NDA Government.

The account @SatyPalMalikGov featured the picture of the Meghalaya Governor and had 14.5 k followers. The profile also mentions about being the “Governor of Meghalaya, Advocate, A proud Indian and a Farmer’s Son.”

This account is still active on Twitter and has not been suspended by Twitter. The fake account has a number of tweets on the farmers protest.

In fact the last tweet was posted on March 22, it says “I am on Twitter to raise the voice of the farmers.”

Incidentally, Malik has openly supported the ongoing farmers’ protest in Punjab and Haryana and also said that he wants a respectful resolution of the issue.

Meanwhile, Raj Bhavan has informed that Malik has created an account on March 24 this year on Twitter with the account ID being @SatyapalMalik6.
