Sensex touches 61K; Opens at 61,088.82 pts

The Nifty too rose by 111 pts at 18,272.85.The market is on top for the fifth consecutive session today.

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Thursday opened at a new peak, breaching 61K level at 61,088.82, advancing 351 pts on the positive global cues and better-than-expected Q2 performance by leading IT firms.

Buying was witnessed across the board.

The Nifty too rose by 111 pts at 18,272.85. The market is on top for the fifth consecutive session today.

The Sensex registered days high and low at 61,159.48 and 61,018.59 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded days high and low at 18,294.75 and 18,254.95 pts.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.84 pc and the Small Cap by 0.64 pc.

In 30 scrips, 26 advanced while 4 declined.

The gainers were L& T by 2.12 pc to Rs 1789.15, Infosys by 1.73 pc to Rs 1738.25, Tech Mahindra by 1.67 pc to Rs 1426.55, SBI by 1.66 pc to Rs 489.60 and HDFC Bank by 1.13 pc to Rs 1657.65.

The losers were TCS by 0.94 pc to Rs 3621.80, IndusInd Bank by 0.47 pc to Rs 1178.25, HCL Technology by 0.46 pc to Rs 1259.90 and Kotak Bank by 0.26 pc to Rs 2000.85.
