New Delhi: Air India unions in a joint letter to the government have asked for clearing all pending arrears with interest and provide clarity in leave encashment issues.

The unions representing pilots, cabin crew and other employees have also requested to allow the employees to continue living in the Air India colonies till their retirement or monetization of assets.

The unions have argued that since subsidiaries of the airline were not being transferred to private parties they are entitled to stay in the airline-owned colonies.

“Since the new buyer is providing employees with a one-year employment guarantee, the colony facility should at least be co-terminus with that date if not until VRS is provided,” the unions have written to Civil Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal.

The unions have also demanded that all permanent employees be given the right to post-retirement benefits of medical and free passage.

The employee representatives have also asked for restoration of pre-Covid allowances and emoluments.

“Now that the flying is fast reaching normalization and passenger traffic getting back to pre-Covid levels, we must return to our pre-Covid emoluments.”

The unions have insisted that arrears must be paid in full with interest prior to handover and a statement of arrears promised to us should be furnished immediately.

“We urgently request you to look into this matter and resolve these issues urgently,” wrote the Air India Joint Action Forum of Unions.
