Imphal: My priority after becoming an MP is to send the internally displaced persons to their respective places, Thounaojam Maheshwar said here on Saturday, adding that he would focus more on bringing peace and tranquillity among the indigenous people of the state.
Without peace we wouldn’t be able to go forward for a developed state and society, no matter how hard we try for the development of our state, the 30-year-old politician, who is also contesting as an RPI candidate from the 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary election, slated to be held on 19 April next month.
He said he was just a public servant and that he took part in this election only because of the love and trust people have in him. He will never let down their aspiration and desire, he declared.
Clarifying his stand on the Republican Party of India (Athawale), being an ally of the ruling BJP government at the centre, the young politician said RPI is neither a supporter nor against the ruling government. They support it based on mutual understanding and issues that come up from time to time. If there was a Congress-led government at the centre his party would have supported it as well. His party is a neutral party, he added.
He also said that he doesn’t believe in the so-called ‘high command’ of several national political parties, and added his high command is the public. He will do whatever the public asks him to do. If there is a difference of opinions with his party on the issues of Manipur, he isn’t afraid of tendering resignation, said.
On the present crisis in the state, Maheshwar said the clash is not between two communities, it’s rather an invasion by illegal immigrants from Myanmar on the indigenous people of the state, which we need to unite and fight the common enemy together.
However, there is a big role of the central government and strict action is needed if we want to solve it immediately, Maheshwar said, without elaborating what kind of ‘strict action’ he was referring to and to whom.
Stating that he believed in action not in words, Maheshwar also appealed to the people to choose the right candidate in this election so that the central government listens to our voices.
