Agartala: Provoking an outrage among a section of its legislators, the BJP on Saturday announced Manik Saha would take over as the new Chief Minister of Tripura replacing Biplab Kumar Deb who resigned earlier in the day.
Saha was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party a couple of hours after Deb put in his papers as per the instruction of the BJP leadership.
“Congratulations and best wishes to Dr Manik Saha ji on being elected as the legislature party leader,” Deb twitter.
“I believe under PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s vision and leadership Tripura will prosper,” Deb said in another tweet. Soon after, Saha rushed to the Raj Bhavan here to stake his claim to form the government.
Meanwhile, tension broke out in state BJP headquarters after Union Environment and Climate Change Minister and party’s central observer Bhupender Yadav announced Saha’s name as the new legislative party leader.
A section of BJP MLAs and leaders including Minister of Cooperation Ramprasad Paul raised a ruckus in the office, claiming that Saha was not chosen as the leader in the. legislators’ meeting.
According to them, it was the party that announced he was their leader. They claimed that a new leader has to be chosen in legislators’ meeting.
According to a report, a section of BJP MLAs will sit at night to decide their next course of action. Saha rushed to Raj Bhawan with his claim to be the next CM of Tripura.
