Palakkad: Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the murder of RSS local leader S Sanjith on Tuesday night arrested one more Popular Front of India (PFI) office-bearer who was alleged to be directly involved in the murder.
He is the second PFI office bearer to be arrested in the case after PFI Area Secretary was arrested on November 22 and sent to 14-day judicial custody.
However, the names of the arrested persons have not been revealed so far citing that an identification parade of them need to be conducted.
The first arrested PFI leader was the driver of the car used by the criminal gang and the second arrested person hacked Sanjith first.
The second arrested accused would be produced before the court on Wednesday after evidence collection at the incident spot.
Reports said that the parts of the car used by the five-member gang were recovered from a scrap shop at Pollachi in Tamil Nadu today.
District Police Chief R Viswanath told UNI that more arrests would happen soon.
Meanwhile, BJP State President K Surendran met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and sought National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the case citing that PFI allegedly has links with Islamic Terror Organisations.
It was on November 15, Sanjith (27) the RSS “Boudhik Pramukh” of Thenari mandalam unit and a private firm employee was hacked to death in an alleged attack by the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) gang at Mambaram, when Sanjith and his wife were travelling on a motorbike, was waylaid by the gang in a car near Sanjith’s wife house.
