Cairo:US bases in the al-Omar oil and Koniko gas fields in northeast Syria’s Deir ez-Zor Governorate came under rocket fire on Friday night, the Lebanon-based Al Mayadeen TV reports, citing sources.

Eight rockets were fired at the Koniko base, the sources said.

The Al Jazeera broadcaster said, citing a US official, that at least one US service member was injured as a result of the rocket attack in the province of Deir ez-Zor. A US source told Al Jazeera that US air defense shot down two out of three drones used in the attack.

Earlier on Friday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that ten rockets targeted coalition forces at the Mission Support Site Green Village compound in northeast Syria on March 24. No US personnel or coalition members were injured in the attack and the facilities and equipment remain unscathed. One of the rockets, which missed the compound by nearly five kilometers, struck and damaged a civilian home, resulting in injuries to two women and two children, according to CENTCOM.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said earlier in the day that the US military had carried out airstrikes on facilities belonging to groups affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) after an Iranian drone attacked a coalition base in northeastern Syria, killing one US contractor and injuring several US service members.

US officials said on Friday that Iran-backed militias fired about a dozen rockets while attacking a second US base in the area, but that strike did not result in casualties.
