New Delhi: Welcoming the Centre’s decision to reduce disturbed areas under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in three North Eastern (NE) states, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday said the move will further create a conducive environment in the region.
“A very welcome decision Amit Shah. Reduction in areas under AFSPA will further create a conducive environment for fast paced growth in the region (NE),” Sonowal said in a tweet.
The Rajya Sabha MP from Assam said the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought a new era of peace, progress and security to the North East.
“NE today is transforming into the growth engine of India. The people of this region have long sought peace and progress, which has been made possible today only due to the efforts of PM Narendra Modi ji. My heartfelt thanks to PM Modi ji and HM Amit Shah ji,” he wrote in another tweet.
The Home Minister on Thursday announced that the government has decided to reduce the disturbed areas under AFSPA in Nagaland, Assam and Manipur.
