Punjab: 2 women among 5 die as car falls into Bhakra canal near Ropar

Ropar: Five people, including two women, were killed and two children feared washed away after a car fell into the Bhakra canal, near Ahmedpur village, in this district on Monday.

Police sources said the accident occurred around 1030 hours when the car, registered in Rajasthan, fell into the canal after being hit by a private bus from behind near Ahmedpur village on the Kiratpur Sahib-Ropar road.

The car was coming from the Kiratpur Sahib side when it was hit by a private bus, they added. People raised an alarm and the search for the vehicle and the victims began with the help of divers.

The car was lifted out of the canal with the help of a crane and the bodies of three males and two females were also recovered.

The relatives of the deceased informed that two children were accompanying the deceased in the vehicle. Police informed that the search was still on for them.
