Promotion of transparency in local adm project in Lunglei concludes

Lunglei: A pilot project initiated by the Local Administration Department, Lunglei District – ‘Promotion of Transparency in Local Administration, Phase II 2021’ concluded Sunday with a ceremonial function held at the Lunglei DC Conference Hall. Lunglei DC, Kulothungan A, handed over citation and cash award to the winners.

Promotion of Transparency in Local Administration for Lunglei District was launched in July last year with an aim of promoting transparency and accountability in the Village Councils within Lunglei town. The pilot project was first implemented at five Village Councils in Lunglei town viz Rahsiveng, Sazaikawn, Salem Veng, Serkawn and Electric Veng. The initiative was expanded this year to 10 other village councils within Lunglei town.

Under the initiative, Village councils are required to organize Gram Sabha at least once a month, call a meeting with all VC members once a month to disclose and discuss financial management, share details of expenditure and fund management with citizens through local newspapers, and face audit from LAD Lunglei.

Bazar Veng and Zotlang bagged the 1st prize, Venghlun the 2nd while Theiriat and Zohnuai won the 3rd prize in ‘Promotion of Transparency in Local Administration, Phase II 2021’.
