Guwahati: A Pro-Khalistani leader named Harjeet Singh was brought to Assam under police escort from Punjab on Tuesday morning,
It is unknown how many supporters were brought with him, and the names of the individuals brought on Tuesday have not been officially disclosed. Meanwhile, another team of Pro-Khalistani supporters is expected to arrive in Dibrugarh by air on Tuesday.
Previously, four members of “Waris Punjab De” were flown to Dibrugarh and charged under the National Security Act (NSA). They are currently being held in the Dibrugarh Central Jail.
Assam’s Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Prashanta Kumar Bhuyan rushed to Dibrugarh on Monday to hold a high-level meeting on security issues.
One of the detainees, Daljeet Singh Kalsi, is a popular Punjabi actor and financer of Pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh. Kalsi was a close aide of the founder of “Waris Punjab De” and actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu.
Basant Singh Fauji is a former associate of Deep Sidhu and was initially attached to Amritpal as a bodyguard. Later, he started looking after a drug de-addiction center at Jallu Khera, Amritpal’s native village.
Gurmeet Singh Bhukhanwala is a former associate of Deep Sidhu who later joined Amritpal Singh. He was made the “Waris Punjab De” in-charge for Moga and is believed to be among the group of 10 close associates of Amritpal.
Bhagwant Singh alias Pradhan Mantri Bajeke is an “outspoken Sikh radical” who was on and off associated with Deep Sidhu and then Amritpal Singh. He has a case against him registered in
Moga under the Arms Act and other cases registered against him, including an attempted murder case from 2015. He is out on bail in all cases.
Harjit Singh, who is Amritpal Singh’s uncle, was involved in the transport business in the UK and Canada but joined his nephew after he came to India in August 2022. Harjit played the role of manager and was also in charge of Amritpal’s finances.
