President Murmu overwhelms with development of Tripura

President of India Droupadi Murmu arrived here in the morning on a two-day visit to Tripura as part of her maiden visit to Northeast.

Agartala: While addressing the civic reception accorded by Agartala Municipal Corporation at Agartala Town Hall on Wednesday evening, Murmu appreciated the development initiatives of Tripura undertaken jointly by central and state government.

President of India Droupadi Murmu arrived here in the morning on a two-day visit to Tripura as part of her maiden visit to Northeast.

“I am happy to take part in the laying foundation stone of several educational and cultural infrastructure of the state. I am confident that the development activities of Tripura would continue,” Murmu stated.

She mentioned that Tripura has taken a lead role in strengthening bilateral relations of India and Bangladesh. More such projects have been implemented in the state to further boost bilateral trade.

Appreciating the performance of the state, the President said Tripura is top in the responsible consumption index of Sustainable Development Goal and Tripura is one of the two lowest plastic waste generating states of India, which set an example for others.

Tripura has created a separate entity in the country for its unique horticultural products like pineapple and various types of bamboo, she said adding, “The forestry based livelihood and green lifestyle of Tripura became an inspiration for others”.

Murmu inaugurated Tripura Judicial Academy and laid the foundation for National Law University at nearby Narsingarh in a brief programme immediately after her arrival. 

Also, attended a special function organised by tea workers at the Durgabari tea estate near the airport.

The president virtually inaugurated MLA hostel in Capital Complex and laid the foundation for a multi-storied building at Pundit Nehru Complex, road improvement projects under Northeast Special Infrastructure Fund and North-east road sector development scheme, six new school buildings and nine 100 seated hostels for school students, IIIT building and Maharaj Birendra Kishore Manikya Museum & Cultural Centre at 105 years old Pushpabanta palace – had housed Raj Bhawan for 46 years.

The President is scheduled to flag off Guwahati to Kolkata express up to Agartala and extension of Agartala-Jiribam-Agartala Jan Satabdi express up to Khongsang (Manipur) with new LHB rake and Vista dome coach on Thursday morning. Then she will offer puja to Tripureswari temple at Udaipur before leaving for Guwahati at 1310 hrs, officials said.
