Guwahati: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), the most powerful conglomerate of student bodies in the North East has accused the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, of his  ‘stoic silence’ in the present crisis of Manipur and said that his ‘total silence’ will further alienate the indigenous people of the northeast from the mainland.

The NESO would like to express its deep sense of sorrow at the ongoing incidents of violence and arson in Manipur which are still continuing resulting in the loss of precious lives and properties, the student body said in a statement.

While expressing its solidarity with the suffering of Manipur and calls for ‘peace’ to prevail and immediate cessation of all sorts of violence and vandalism in this highly volatile situation, NESO appeals to all the citizens not to believe and spread fake news/misinformation or false propaganda which will only worsen the present situation.

The NESO also squarely blamed both the Central and state governments for their utter failure in controlling and stopping violence even after 45 days of conflict in spite of the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the presence of the additional armed forces in Manipur numbering more than 40,000 personnel.

The NESO urged the Prime Minister to speak up lest the Government of India has a hidden agenda behind his inaction.

The NESO will also hold a candlelight vigil in all the states on the 28th of June appealing for peace and to shun violence so that peace and tranquillity to once again prevail in the state of Manipur.
